“Marconi Days”, the international longest-running event honoring Guglielmo Marconi
Since 2004, the Municipality of Sasso Marconi has held “Marconi Days,” a communication-focused event, to honor the memory of Guglielmo Marconi, who conducted the first significant experiments in wireless radiotelegraphy in our city. The Region Emilia-Romagna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna are supporting the event, as is the Foundation G. Marconi’s scientific contribution and the support of private sponsors.
“Marconi Days,” now in its 16th issue, is the longest-running event honoring Guglielmo Marconi. It has hosted communication protagonists over the years, including journalists, communication professionals, and artists known nationally and internationally for their commitment to promoting correct and democratic media use.
During the Marconi Days, the great communicators of our time are honored with a prize – the “Città di Sasso Marconi” Award – which has been given to many people over the years, including Enzo Biagi, Piero Angela, Don Luigi Ciotti, Lilli Gruber, Milena Gabanelli, Enrico Mentana, Alessandro Bergonzoni, Luca Mercalli, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Carlo Conti, Luciana Littizzetto, and many others.
In 2021, we’ve celebrate the 90th anniversary of the enlightenment of the Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro by Guglielmo Marconi with many celebrative events in Italy and Brazil and by signing a “covenant of friendship” between the City of Sasso Marconi and the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary in Rio de Janeiro.
The next Marconi Days issue (5-14 May 2023) will focus on “Responsibility of Communication“: we will discuss communication in the current media scenario, the pervasive use of social media, and the significant impact of technology (e.g., Artificial Intelligence) and its applications.
